Foster School of Business

Chelley Patterson is a senior consultant at New Legends Now, working with clients to develop clear and aligned culture, breakthrough strategy, flawless execution, and courageous leadership. She leverages 30 years of experience focusing on innovative team performance, leadership development, change management and strategic planning with domestic and global, private and notfor-profit organizations. Chelley holds a BBA from Ohio U, and an MS and Doctorate in Organizational Behavior from Georgia State’s Mack Robinson School of Business.

As previous Director of R&D for the Center for Leadership and Strategic Thinking at UW’s Foster School of Business (2009-17), her prior corporate experience also includes internal consulting and talent development for NASCO, Vanstar, and NCR’s Human Interface Technology Center in Atlanta and Knowledge Lab in London. She was a member of Teresa Amabile’s collaborative research team for three years – designing and conducting the Harvard Business School studies reported in The Progress Principle (Amabile & Kramer, 2011).

Beyond her day job, Chelley is a part-time lecturer at the UW Foster School of Business teaching Organizational Behavior in the online graduate certificate program. She is also engaged in civic leadership, writing and public speaking, and enjoys life with her husband and two teenagers in Fall City, Washington.

Chelley Patterson has 25-plus years of experience working with domestic, global, private and nonprofit organizations focusing on leadership development, innovative team performance, change management and strategic planning. She was a member of the collaborative research team that designed and conducted the Harvard Business School studies reported in The Progress Principle and coauthored Wheels Up: The Alaska Airlines Case.

In 2017, Patterson joined the consulting firm New Legends Now, where she works with leaders and teams at the intersection of strategy and culture. She helps executive teams create a simplified and clear strategy, prioritize initiatives and drive accountability for execution and results — all while aligning everything to their organization's culture. This work is powered by proven tools and processes for growing and scaling businesses and creating learning organizations.

From 2009 to 2017, Patterson was a director at the UW's Center for Leadership and Strategic Thinking (CLST), where she helped guide CLST's multi-site field research on leadership, strategic thinking and organizational change. She co-designed games and simulations aimed to accelerate the development of teamwork, leadership and strategic thinking. Patterson also designed and delivered leadership development workshops and other training and education, executive coaching and consulting on CLST client engagements.

Patterson has also served on the City of Snoqualmie Parks Board (2009-2014), the Snoqualmie City Council (2014-2017), the Encompass NW board of directors (2006-2015), the Snoqualmie Valley YMCA board of directors (2008-present) and the Sno-Valley Innovation board of directors (2018-present). She has a Ph.D. in organizational behavior, an M.S. in human resources and organizational behavior from Georgia State University, and a B.B.A. in management from Ohio University.
