Catherine Yan, PhD was most recently Assistant Professor with the Department of Pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical School and Harvard Medical School. She has a strong professional and educational background in Immunology, Cancer and Stem Cell Biology, Cell Signaling, Genetics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Yan’s laboratory focused their research on the regulation of DNA damage repair. Outside of the laboratory, Catherine Yan has taught and mentored numerous undergraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral fellows including graduate teaching, and has participated in many research related activities including presenting at local and national scientific meetings, serving on foundation subcommittees and grant reviews.

Dr. Yan received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at Barnard College and completed her doctorate degree with honors in Biological Sciences Department at Columbia University. After receiving her PhD, she worked briefly as a research fellow at Genetics Institute before beginning her postdoctoral studies at Brandeis University with Dr. Laura Davis, and subsequently with Dr. Frederick Alt at Harvard Medical School and the CBR/Immune Disease Institute (now Program in Cellular Medicine at Children’s Hospital). Upon establishing her independent laboratory at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical School and Harvard Medical School, she received several awards such as the American Society of Hematology Scholar Award, V Foundation, Emerald and Sidney Kimmel Scholar Awards, and served on several subcommittees associated with American Society of Hematology, V Foundation, Kimmel Foundation, Dana Farber Harvard Cancer Center, Harvard Stem Cell Institute and as an associate member of the Broad Institute.

Outside of her research and teaching, Dr. Yan enjoys pursuits such as hiking and dressage horse competitions.
