Cary Bussema

Academic Division: FinanceMr. Bussema has over 30 years experience as a fixed income investment professional with extensive product structuring and marketing expertise, as well as analysis, underwriting and portfolio management skills. He has worked in banking, investment banking, leasing and private placement fixed income investment management. Most recently, until early 2016, Mr. Bussema worked for Citizens Asset Finance, the $6 billion leasing company of Citizens Financial Group. At Citizens, Mr. Bussema served as team leader of credit and underwriting of new financings. Additionally, he led CAF’s development of a new Structured Finance business line initiative. Prior to joining Citizens, Mr. Bussema was a founding principal of, and worked fourteen years at 42 North Structured Finance and its predecessor organization, Key Global Finance, a management owned corporate investment advisor that delivered more that $8B of customized structured finance solutions in industrial and energy project finance, as well as structured financing for real and personal property. Real estate transaction structures included sale-leasebacks and credit tenant leases. Mr. Bussema was responsible for credit underwriting, portfolio management and assisted in the syndication of complex structures and investments to banks, insurance companies and investment funds. Before 42 North, he spent thirteen years in the Investment Department of New England Life in positions of increased authority, ultimately as Division Head of the Private Placement Group, responsible for a team that managed a portfolio of $2.5B and invested $500M annually. Mr. Bussema earned his MBA degree from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, concentrating in finance and accounting, and holds a BA in Economics from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. He was awarded his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1986. Mr. Bussema resides in Wellesley with is wife and two college-aged daughters.
