A native of Quebec, Canada, Carolyn Langley received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology and Education from Edinboro University, Pennsylvania. She earned her Master of Science degree in Special Education from Indiana University and her doctorate in Educational Psychology from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Dr. Langley is a licensed speech-language pathologist. For many years, Langley has provided speech therapy to children and adults in the Michiana area. She taught in the Communication Department at Indiana University South Bend, where she received the Universitys award for excellence in teaching. In 1987, she joined the faculty of the Communication Department at Saint Marys College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Langley subsequently created and served as chair of the Communicative Disorders Program at Saint Marys. While at Saint Marys, Langley was honored with the Colleges highest award bestowed on a professor, when she received the Maria Pieta Award for excellence in teaching. Saint Marys also presented Langley with the Saint Marys Student Leadership Award, given to the administrator or faculty member who most demonstrates commitment to preparing students for their roles of leadership and action. In 2004, Langley resigned from Saint Marys, choosing to pursue work in the private sector. Aside from presenting papers locally and internationally, Langley has authored articles addressing intercultural communication and communication apprehension. These articles have appeared in journals, such as Communication and the Law and The Social Science Journal. Today, Carolyn Langley provides individual and group workshops for the improvement of dialect and the improvement of overall communication skills. Her clients include students, corporate executives, attorneys, physicians and those who work in the field of mass media. For the past five years, she has also participated in faculty evaluation of the oral and written work of MBA students in the Management Communication course at the University of Notre Dame.
