Carolyn Colsant

Creative & Critical Thinker / Artist / Writer / Adjunct Professor

Biography

Since early childhood, I have been consistently, compulsively, creative. Art has been a constant in my life. It has been present as a mode of expression, a source of inspiration, and a subject for admiration. My creativity is primarily expressed through writing, filmmaking, and visual art. I work in many mediums: collage, photography, videography, painting, drawing, and sculpting. My work is concept driven; the choice of medium is determined by the idea, and how it might best be expressed.

My artistic influences include Wassily Kandinsky, Gerhard Richter, and Bruce Conner. Plato, Nietzsche, and Freud have had a significant impact on my subject matter. I studied philosophy at the New School for Social Research, where I received a concentration in psychoanalysis, a masters, and a phd. For 10 years I taught university courses in philosophy, argumentation, and writing. I have lived in NYC for 15 years. I’m currently working from my home in Brooklyn.
