The Wharton School

Bugra Ozel is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Jindal School of Management of University of Texas at Dallas. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from Columbia Business School in 2010 and worked at UCLA Anderson School of Management until 2015. He was a visiting associate professor at the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania from 2019 to 2021.

Dr. Ozel's research has been published in top journals, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, and The Review of Accounting Studies. It is also mentioned in various media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Bloomberg, and Harvard Business Review.

Dr. Ozel is named among The Best 40 Business School Professors under 40 in 2021 by Poets & Quants and is the recipient of The Wharton School's 2020 Teaching Excellence Award and UCLA Anderson's 2014 Dean George Robbins Award for Teaching Excellence.

Primary: Corporate disclosure; Debt markets

Secondary: Corporate compliance (labor laws, commercial law, and taxation)

Dr. Ozel's research interests lie in the interface between accounting and economics. His studies focus on corporate disclosures, and seek to address issues that can have an impact on regulations, policies, research, and ultimately investor and manager behavior. In his studies, he draws on a number of novel approaches and perspectives to provide insights into causal relations among important constructs in accounting and economics.
