Bruce A. Boissonnault is the founding and current President of the Niagara Health Quality Coalition (NHQC), a nonprofit collaboration of business, health care, government and consumer leaders that supports initiatives to improve transparency of health information and improve community health care. Mr. Boissonnault is also the founding President of the Alliance for Quality Health Care, a statewide collaboration of leaders working to improve health care transparency nationally. Additionally he serves as a policy and technical advisor to federal, state and international government agencies on matters related to health care performance evaluations.
Mr. Boissonnault is dedicated to ensuring public access to meaningful information on the performance of health care organizations and focuses specifically on measurement and transparency of results that drive improvements in health care results. NHQC empowers consumers and decision-makers with health quality information in several states. NHQC publishes a variety of tools to help consumers evaluate health care. This includes the New York State Hospital Report Card(SM), the nation's most highly respected hospital quality report of its kind, designed to help patients and policy leaders make better health care decisions. NHQC operates www.myHealthFinder.com, an independent, credible source of consumer information about providers' performance in several states. NHQC is the 2009 recipient of the "National Quality Award" for pioneering work in public reporting that has resulted in measurable quality improvement.
Mr. Boissonnault serves in multiple national roles. He is respected as a media partner and serves as the Hearst News Corporation's research leader for its "Dead By Mistake" series, a major, national investigative news series for which (among other citations and awards) the Albany Times Union was awarded the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi award for the nation's 2009 best investigative journalism story. He was appointed as 2009-2010 co-chair of the National Quality Forum Hospital Outcomes and Efficiency Steering Committee which was funded by Congress to recommend the best tools for evaluating hospital performance nation-wide. In 2010, he was re-appointed - this time, to serve on the national steering committee for nursing home measures. He serves as an advisor to MEDPAC and has served as technical advisor to the National Health Care Quality Report to Congress and the National Health Care Disparities Report to Congress. He also serves as an external reviewer for the Institute of Medicine.
Mr. Boissonnault is a voting member of the National Quality Forum, the Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance and is a member of the National Consumer and Purchaser Disclosure Project. He serves or has served on many nonprofit boards and commissions including the New York State Pay-For-Performance Task Force, the New York State Medicaid Reform Task Force Advisory Board, the Family Justice Center Board (for victims of domestic violence), the Greater Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross, the search committee to select the Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent, Technical advisor to Federal Court in Buffalo School Public Schools desegregation case, the American Lung Association of Western New York Board, the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra Board, the Amherst Symphony Orchestra Board, and the board of Leadership Buffalo.
The work of the Niagara Health Quality Coalition has been chronicled in media outlets including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Consumer Reports Magazine, National Public Radio, The Buffalo News, New York Daily News, New York Newsday, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Syracuse Post Dispatch, Albany Times Union, Business First, Craines New York Business, Albany Business Journal, AARP Newsletter, Managed Care Magazine, Disease Management Advisor, Health Affairs and other respected health care media voices. In addition, Mr. Boissonnault's research has been published in peer reviewed journals such as Oxford University Press, Health Affairs and others.
Mr. Boissonnault lives with his wife and two sons in Williamsville, NY.
