Brenda Lormil, is a committed, compassionate, and dynamic leader who decided to utilize her skills and expertise in healthcare to revolutionize the delivery of health education to Haitian-American communities in Massachusetts. Born to and raised by Haitian immigrant parents, Brenda’s upbringing and culture has served as the primary catalyst to HAMA’s existence since April 2017. Thereby, enabling this organization to commit to decreasing health disparities and increase access to equitable care by educating and empowering the Haitian community through culturally sensitive delivery of health information.

There are many factors that lead to “healthcare system failures” – a phrase that often echoes a sense of profound hopelessness for many. However, Brenda’s perspective is different. She strongly believes grassroot efforts of community organizations like HAMA, are responsible to inform, educate, and empower patients and their families - thus bridging the gap to better care. Although, Boston is HAMA’s geographical starting point, Brenda envisions this organization transcending borders by collaborating with other organizations and individuals to reach Haitian communities in other states and countries.

Brenda currently serves as the Equity Nurse Practitioner for Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in Boston, MA. She provides patient-centered care to underserved populations while helping them navigate the complexities of clinical trial enrollment. Her role provides her the unique opportunity to work alongside other passionate men and women of the MGH community to find creative ways to provide equitable access and delivery of care to vulnerable populations.

Brenda’s diverse nursing experience started in 2011 in which she continues to sharpen her leadership skills that now serves her growing HAMA team. Brenda is an alum of Regis College in Weston, MA where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2011, and her Master of Science in Nursing in 2015.
