Bradford (Brad) Hudson is Associate Professor of the Practice of Marketing and Assistant Chairperson of the Marketing Department in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, which is ranked among the top five undergraduate programs in the United States by BusinessWeek. He teaches the introductory course for all undergraduates (MKTG1021/1031 Marketing Principles) and the capstone strategy course for marketing majors during their senior year (MKTG4256 Applied Marketing Management).

Brad has broad knowledge of the entire marketing discipline and specializes in strategic brand management. He is recognized globally for his expertise on the concept of brand heritage, which suggests that the historical status of older companies is often explicitly linked to their brand identity and consumer appeal. He has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals such as European Journal of Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Cornell Hospitality Quarterl_y. He has also been quoted by numerous media sources including CNBC, _Financial Times, Fox News, and USA Today.

Brad holds a Ph.D. in business history from the University Professors interdisciplinary honors program at Boston University. He also holds a master’s degree in services marketing from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University (including coursework at the Johnson Graduate School of Management), a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania (including coursework at the Wharton School), and an executive education certificate in strategy from Harvard Business School.

Before joining the Carroll School, he was a member of the faculty at Boston University for more than a decade. There he held concurrent appointments as Associate Professor of the Practice of Marketing in the School of Hospitality Administration, and Lecturer in Marketing in the Graduate School of Management. He also served as Founding Editor of Boston Hospitality Review, an interdisciplinary journal devoted to scholarship about the theory and practice of hospitality as a business activity and cultural phenomenon.

Prior to his academic career, Brad served in a variety of consulting and managerial positions. As President of Hudson Consulting and as a Senior Consultant with The TQM Group, he provided advice on strategy and marketing to senior executives of multinational firms. His clients included AT&T, Cadbury Schweppes, Cunard, Harley-Davidson, and Nestlé. He is former Chief Executive Officer of Bay Tower Incorporated, which was ranked among the 100 largest independent restaurant companies in the United States. He is also former Chief Executive Officer of Brandpoint.com, which developed an acclaimed consumer Internet navigation portal.

Brad continues to provide advice to clients and colleagues at companies in a variety of industries. He recently delivered executive education sessions for the Gillette division of Procter & Gamble and the Historic Hotels of America division of Preferred Hotel Group. He is also a board member for Privateer International, which produces and distributes Privateer Rum.

Brad is a former Fulbright Scholar to Canada, where he held the Fulbright Visiting Research Chair at the University of Guelph. He has received the Certificate of Excellence from Emerald Management Reviews for the practical implications of his academic publications. He was nominated for the university-wide Metcalf Award for Teaching Excellence during his final year at Boston University. He is listed in Who’s Who in the World (Marquis).
