Prof. Dr. Armin Heinzl ist seit 2002 Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Allgemeine Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Universität Mannheim. Zwischen 1996 und 2002 hatte er den Lehrstuhl für Betriebswirtschaftslehre, insbesondere Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Universität Bayreuth inne.
Er beschäftigt sich mit den Eigenschaften von Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien und deren Auswirkungen auf Aufgabenträger, Prozesse, Plattformen sowie Organisationen. Dabei versucht er nicht nur bestehende Theorien durch empirische Untersuchungen zu verbessern, sondern neue Technologien auf der Basis empirischer Erkenntnisse zielgerichteter zu gestalten.
