Biography

Anne Walton is a Director on the Global Outsourced Compliance team at Chartwell Compliance. She assists clients with their day-to-day compliance operations and provides advisory services drawn from over 15 years of experience in anti-money laundering, risk management, and investigations.

Prior to joining Chartwell, Anne was a senior director in the Financial Crimes Risk Management practice at K2 Integrity. Anne helped financial institutions strengthen internal control frameworks to effectively manage anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions risks. She also assisted clients in the design and delivery of risk assessments and building strong compliance testing programs.

Before K2, Anne worked as an independent consultant, completing an investigation into the role of shell companies in a criminal activity as well as performing physical and cybersecurity threat assessments. Before that, Anne was also a senior intelligence analyst for Helios Global, where she produced intelligence reports and dynamic threat assessments for the Department of Homeland Security. She also worked as a research fellow for the Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation and the John Jay College Center on Terrorism, where she focused on the terror financing techniques of Al Shabaab and the Horn of Africa. Anne authored the article “Financial Intelligence: Uses and Teaching Methods,” published in the Journal of Strategic Security (Vol. 6, Fall 2013).

Anne previously worked at the Bank of New York Mellon and was an intelligence analyst with the NY/NJ High Intensity Financial Crimes Area (HIFCA). While at the HIFCA she was deployed to the El Dorado Money Laundering Task Force, where she provided analytical support to criminal investigations in the NY/NJ metro area.

Anne holds an M.A. in criminal justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a B.A. in Justice from American University. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).

Anne lives in Northern Michigan with her son where they spend their time exploring the great outdoors and walking on the shores of Lake Michigan.
