Andrew Moravcsik

Biography

Moravcsik’s areas of research and teaching include European integration, transnational democracy, human rights, Asian regionalism, international organization, negotiation analysis, international relations theory, European foreign policy and transatlantic relations, defense-industrial globalization and qualitative/historical methods—on which he has published over 125 scholarly books, articles, chapters and reviews. His analytical history of the European Union, The Choice for Europe, has been called "the most important work in the field." (American Historical Review) He has received grants from the Fulbright, German Marshall, Krupp and other foundations. Moravcsik is Director of the European Union Program at Princeton. He was recently awarded the Stanley Kelley Prize for Undergraduate Teaching. He is a Non-resident Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institution, with which he has participated in several projects. He is an editor at Foreign Affairs, previously served as a contributing editor at Newsweek, and publishes occasionally in other publications, including Financial Times, New York Times, Prospect, and Foreign Policy. Before entering academia, he served as trade negotiator in the US government, special assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, editor of a Washington foreign policy journal, and in other public and advisory positions. He holds a public policy degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He also publishes on opera, both as a music critic and as a scholar. He has been affiliated with academic institutions and policy think-tanks in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, and was on leave during a recent academic year in Shanghai, China.
