Zicklin School of Business
Amita Singh, DSc is a lecturer in the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management at the Zicklin School of Business where she teaches courses in operations and management. Dr Singh is the curriculum designer and instructor for the Girls in STEM program, a summer initiative at Columbia University. She is a part-time faculty member of the Integrated Marketing Department, Divisions in Business at New York University. Previously Dr Singh has taught graduate courses in data analytics at Columbia University’s Applied Analytics program, and at George Washington University’s Department of Engineering Management.
Dr. Singh’s academic focus has been in the field of Operations Research. Her research interests are in applying probability theory to solving real world problems. She has developed a methodology for improving estimation of project costs and schedules by modeling correlations between project sub-elements using probabilistic techniques. Her thesis titled “The Doubly-Pareto Uniform Distribution” (DPU) investigated the behavior of probability distributions when applied to heavy-tailed data, observed in financial data as well as biometric data.
Dr Singh’s passion is teaching topics in mathematics and discovering the power of applying mathematical methods to data to help solve real world problems. She has been teaching and developing courses with a focus in applied mathematics and business for colleges in New York City.
Dr. Singh’s professional career spans over 15 years of experience as a management consultant in the public and private sector. Her area of specialization is application of statistical methods to engineering economic analyses, budget and policy assessments, cost uncertainty and risk assessments of capital-intensive infrastructure projects.
