After graduating from the Grandes Ecoles preparatory classes, he studied mathematical economics and econometrics and earned a Magister degree in economics from University of Paris 1 and PSE (Paris School of Economics).
He holds a PhD in economics from the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2008).
Amanar has then become involved in the study of the methodological issues at stake in the introduction of quantitative methods in economics. The common thread of his work is the study of the case of intersectoral matrices (input-output matrices). He examines the theoretical and statistical, as well as the methodological (he holds a Master in Economic methodology from University Paris 1 – ENS Ulm) and practical issues raised by quantitative analysis in economics.
After being a doctoral student at the Centre d’Economie de la Sorbonne (CES), during four years he held the position of senior lecturer at the University of Lausanne and also worked at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
A member of several international research projects, Amanar has also been a visiting scholar at the University of St Petersburg and Smolny College in Russia, as well as at the University of Paris Sorbonne in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Brandeis University (MA., USA).
Amanar publishes his works on the methodology and history of quantitative economics in several peer-reviewed journals, including the European Journal of Social Sciences, Economies and Societies, Œconomia, Research in the History of Economic Thought and Methodology, and Papers in Political Economy. Amanar has contributed to several collective works and is also the author of a book on the empirical foundations of economics, published by ENS Editions, L’économie est une science empirique (2019).
A committed member of the scientific community, Amanar was editor of the journal Œconomia from 2010 to 2014, and is the elected secretary-treasurer of the International Walras Association.
Passionate about transmission, Amanar Akhabbar is a pedagogical actor at ESSCA through his teaching of political economy and quantitative methods in economics and management. Head of the Economics Section of the Management and Corporate Environment Department, he teaches microeconomics, macroeconomics, monetary and financial economics, as well as applied mathematics.
