Research Interest

Pedagogical research

  • Application of blended learning environments (flipped classroom) to engineering education
  • Developing software for learning analytics
  • Dramatization in education

Scientific research

My main research interest is the development and use of computational models of biological systems at different scales. I have been involved in modelling the function of the heart and the gastrointestinal system in health and disease. Focus areas include:

  • Modelling protein kinetics of ion channels
  • Biophysical models of the cellular electrical activity that underlies contraction of the heart and the stomach
  • Cellular coupling and whole organ electrophysiology
  • Development of efficient C++ code for solving large scale finite elements problems in computational biology
