Profile
Alan is an experienced non-executive director across a range of industry sectors.
He is Chairman of The Remuneration Consultants Group, and a non-executive director at Foxtons plc and Murray Income Trust plc. He is also an honorary visiting professor at the The Business School (formerly Cass), City, University of London.
Alan was Chairman of Fat Face, the 200-store active lifestyle casual clothing brand from 2006 until 2013, and he was Chief Executive of HMV Group until 2006, having led its leveraged buyout and subsequent London Stock Exchange flotation in 2002. From 1993 to 1998 Alan was Managing Director of Waterstones, and earlier in his career he worked in various marketing roles for Do It All, WH Smith, and Boots. He has previously served as a non-executive director of the Competition and Markets Authority, Rentokil Initial plc, Somerfield plc and Wilson Bowden plc.
Alan has also taught on the Oxford MBA programme at Saïd Business School, and chaired the advisory board of the Oxford Institute of Retail Management.
