DETAILED PROGRAMME

The programme 'Mastering IT Management' consists of 6 topical modules. In Spring (Dutch edition) this is taking place 6 times on a Monday afternoon and evening, from 1:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In Fall (English edition), we organise this programme in two 3-day modules.

Module 1: IT Strategy

Aligning your IT strategy with the corporate strategy is key to maximising business value from IT. This module focuses on strategic alignment and the capabilities needed to help organisations achieve higher IT efficiency and effectiveness.

In this module you will learn:

  • how to build and align your IT strategy with your company strategy
  • what Business-IT alignment means as an ‘enabler’ for value creation

Module 2: Enterprise IT Governance

Enterprise IT Governance helps ensure we make the right decisions, assure everyone we are making them, and insure our capacity for decision-making. In this module, you will learn the principles of IT decision-making and how it relates to the corporate IT strategy. We will zoom in on the essentials of the COBIT® framework and end this session with examples from practitioners.

In this module, you will learn:

  • what IT Governance is and what it can mean for your organisation
  • how IT Governance is related to the IT Strategy
  • what IT organisation and governance model best work
  • how you set up the right IT Governance mechanisms for enabling business value creation

Module 3: IT Project Management

Most organisations have a whole variety of IT projects and programmes running at the same time. In this module, we study the selection of the right IT projects from the perspective of enterprise performance measurement and management. A balance between a theoretical and practical approach provides actionable insights.

In this module, you will learn:

  • how IT project and programme management can add value to your organisation
  • what pitfalls you should avoid when selecting projects
  • how a portfolio approach adds value in managing your IT projects
  • why and how IT initiatives are best linked to your company’s objectives

Module 4: IT Services Management

Your organisation’s performance is highly dependent on the services delivered by IT. The more process-oriented your IT services, the higher the added value of your service level and the better the alignment with your business partners. We will start this module with a general overview of IT Services Management and then focus on a specific IT Service Management case. We'll end this module with a guest session.

In this module, you will learn:

  • how you analyse and decide on your IT services portfolio
  • what service management can mean for your organisation
  • how you design and improve SLAs for the advantage of your customers

Module 5: IT Outsourcing

IT is often considered for outsourcing. But is outsourcing the best solution? What problems do we solve when considering outsourcing? And what is the impact of IT Outsourcing on our daily business? In this module, the fundamentals of IT Outsourcing are discussed. You will get introduced to key frameworks and best practices for IT Outsourcing.

In this module, you will learn:

  • what, how and when IT Outsourcing is the best option
  • to identify typical challenges and dilemmas in IT Outsourcing deals
  • how you manage the impact of IT Outsourcing on the business activities and governance of IT
  • how cloud computing and crowdsourcing relate to IT Outsourcing

Module 6: Business Analytics

Organisations that rely on computer networks, digital information, and the Internet are vulnerable to cyber-attacks − which can lead to financial loss, disruption of operations, and, inevitably, reputational damage. In addition, as consumer awareness about privacy grows, customer trust is becoming critical to companies doing digital business. And as if that was not enough, changing regulations − like GDPR − are presenting challenges too.

In this module, you will learn:

  • Which cyber threats are out there
  • What compliance challenges you might face
  • What operational dilemmas you will need to address
  • And most importantly: what actions to take to combat a cyber incident
