About the course

The course presents the repair and operations, testing and maintenance of different H.V. power component such as power transformers, underground cables, different types of the circuit breakers, current transformer, potential transformers, capacitive voltage transformers, grounding switches, surge arresters, overhead transmission line insulators, and isolating switches. The course contains testing of the H.V. equipment, routine tests, type tests, special tests, installation and installation tests and maintenance tests. Also the course contains the maintenance regulations of H.V. components.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able to:

  • Apply an extensive knowledge on industrial HVAC preventive maintenance, repair and operations
  • Understand the causes of H.V. equipment failures
  • Recognize the maintenance regulations of electrical H.V. outdoor equipment and their function of operation and installation
  • Test and apply maintenance of power transformers, the current transformers, potential transformers, capacitive voltage transformers and switchgear
  • Identify the different types of outdoor H.V. circuit breakers and the causes of circuit breaker failure and how to make maintenance for switchgear
  • Learn how to test the different types of circuit breakers, grounding switches and isolating switches

  • Power and Distribution Transformers, Cables, Switchgear, Grounding Switches, Isolating Switches, Surge Arresters, Current Transformers, Potential Transformers, Capacitive Voltage Transformers and Grounding System Preventive Maintenance, Repair, Operations and Testing
  • Examples and Case Studies

Day 2

  • H.V. Equipment Testing according to British Standard and IEC
  • Protective System Preventive Maintenance, Repair, Testing & Operations
  • H.V. Switchgear Testing-Breakdown Causes of Circuit Breakers-Common Troubles of Circuit Breakers and Remedial Action–Important Checks on Circuit Breakers–Breakdown Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance-Testing of Circuit Breakers according to IEC-Type Tests-Routine Tests-Installation Tests-Maintenance Tests and Factory Tests
  • Examples and Case Studies

Day 3

  • Current Transformers-Principle of Operation-Rated Current-Rated Burden-Accuracy Class-Short Time Rating-Instrument Security Factor-Testing according to BS 3938 , BS 7626 and IEC 60044-1
  • Voltage Transformer and Capacitive Voltage Transformer Standards- Short Time Ratings- Testing according To BS 3938 ,BS 7626 And IEC 60044-1

Day 4

  • Maintenance and testing of Disconnecting Switches according To BS 3078 and IEC–Ratings and their Selection-Voltage and Insulation Level-Frequency-Normal Current-Standard Values-Short Time Withstand Current-Duration of Short Circuit-Peak with Stand Current- Making Current
  • Maintenance and Testing of Grounding Switches

Day 5

  • Maintenance and Testing of Surge Arresters according to IEC
  • Maintenance of H.V. Outdoor Circuit Breakers, Capacitive Voltage Transformers, Current and Potential Transformers
  • Examples and Case Studies
