About the course
To be successful in any leadership role, you have to be able to depend on your people. So you need to build strong relationships with them and earn their trust and respect. And to achieve this, you may need to develop new skills.
If you’ve recently started managing people – or you’re a specialist managing a technical team – this programme introduces you to principles that will help you become the authentic leader you aspire to be. It gives you the skills to coach your people – to understand them, communicate with them and motivate them so they perform even better and make your organisation more successful.
This programme is made up of three modules, each focusing on a different aspect of people management:
MODULE 1: AUTHENTICITY
In this module, you’ll learn the principles of authentic leadership – and start to apply them to your own development as a leader. You’ll explore why a growth mindset is so important and how to embrace it. You’ll also learn why getting external feedback is such an essential part of your leadership journey.
MODULE 2: THE LEADER AS COACH
In today’s business world, coaching is more important than ever. This module introduces you to the challenges of giving feedback – and shows you basic frameworks to use in coaching sessions with others. You’ll also discover the key components of emotional intelligence – and learn how to apply goal-setting principles for both yourself and others.
MODULE 3: CONCLUSION
This final module focuses on what you’ve learned throughout the programme – and how you plan to use your new knowledge and skills in the future.
This online journey brings together learning formats including videos, interviews, exercises, questionnaires and real-life examples. You’ll also have background reading to do and questions to help you reflect on your own experience.
In addition, you’ll take part in projects – giving you the opportunity to put theory into practice.
You can start Essentials in People Skills at any time – and study wherever and whenever suits you. It takes around 10 to 12 hours to complete the programme and you can split this time over a maximum of three months.
