Carey Business School
Dr. DeChavez is a Latinx artist, recovering academic, and writer from San Antonio, Texas. A first-generation college graduate, she earned a PhD in Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research and activism centers QTBIPOC by way of literature and implementing anti-racist and anti-colonial teaching practices
Dr. DeChavez is also a mental health advocate who speaks openly about her experiences with depression and anxiety in an effort to normalize such conversations.
Before graduate school, she worked for the Macondo Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by acclaimed Chicana author Sandra Cisneros that brings together writers committed to social change. Dr. DeChavez's work has appeared in the LA Times, Fierce by Mitú, and The Mujerista.
She currently lives in Austin, TX.
Dr. DeChavez has given lectures and workshops in different subjects at universities across the country, including Stanford University, Bethany College, Southwestern University, University of Illinois at Chicago, and California State University San Bernardino.
