Yessenia Tellez

Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor of Finance at Virginia Tech Pamplin College of Business.

My research areas of interest are empirical corporate finance, financial intermediation, and household finance. My research agenda on financial intermediation uses rich micro datasets to explore how compensation incentives, loan officers’ limited attention, and lack of human capital impact bank monitoring and their effects on moral hazard outcomes.

My current research projects on household finance link consumer credit bureau data to household demographics and consumption choices to show how consumption patterns change in times of financial distress.

My previous academic background includes a MA in Economics from Duke University (NC, USA) and a Bachelor in Economics from Central American University (Nicaragua).

Outside of academia, I have worked in commercial and investment banking in Latin America, where my primary responsibilities included investment portfolio and liquidity management.
