Biography

INSEAD Business School

Xiaowei Rose Luo is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise at INSEAD. She is also an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds a PhD in Sociology with a focus on organisational studies from Stanford University.

Professor Luo’s research has recently focused on how the unique conditions in emerging economies affect corporate strategies and performance, particularly in family firms. She has published in leading academic journals including the Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and Research Policy. She has won the Best Research Paper Award for the past two consecutive years from the International Association of Chinese Management Research, the most influential association on Chinese management research. She currently serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Review and the Organization Science, and the Research Committee of the Organisation and Management Theory Division at the Academy of Management.

A native of China, Professor Luo received her BA in Linguistics and English and American Literature and studied in the graduate program in World Economy at Fudan University, Shanghai. She has consulted for entrepreneurial firms in China and the US. Her teaching experience includes the MBA and Executive Education courses on corporate strategies in emerging markets, organisational design and effectiveness, and strategic human resources, and the PhD courses on organisation theory.
