Biography

National University of Singapore

Xiaolin Wang studied engineering mechanics at the University of Science and Technology of Chengdu (now Sichuan University). He obtained his MEng from the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where upon graduation he continued to work in the research areas of shock wave propagation in solids, hyper-velocity impact and shock wave consolidation. He obtained his PhD in applied mechanics from the University of Cambridge in 1998 with a thesis about constitutive relations and elastic waves in cellular solids. He then stayed on at the university as a Research Associate studying acoustic and heat transfer properties of metal foams. In 1999, he moved on as an Assistant Professor to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His research then was about acoustic properties and impact characteristics of porous metals. In 2004, he joined the Institute of Acoustics as an Associate Professor. Since then he has been engaged in projects relating to noise control and sound absorbing materials.
