Dr. Zhao Xiande is Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management, Director of CEIBS-GLP Centre of Innovations in Supply Chains and Services. Prior to joining CEIBS in January 2013, he was Professor of Operations Management in the Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics and Director of the Centre of Supply Chain Management/Logistics, Li & Fung Institute of Supply Chain Management/Logistics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2005 to 2012).
During the past twenty-five years, Dr. Zhao has been affiliated with a number of universities where he has held several academic and administrative positions. In 2011, Dr. Zhao was specially appointed as a “One Thousand Talent Professor” under China’s Global Search of One Thousand Talent Theme. Meanwhile, he served as Director of the Institute for Supply Chain Integration and Service Innovation at South China University of Technology. Previously, he worked as an associate professor at City University of Hong Kong, Hampton University and University of Utah. He also held joint appointment as honoured professor or visiting professor at Fudan University, Xi’an Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University, Nankai University and Tianjin University.
Professor Zhao received his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a major in Operations Management and a minor in International Business from the University of Utah in the USA. He also received his MBA and MSc in Chemistry from the same University and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Nankai University in China.
Professor Zhao’s expertise is in the areas of Operations and Supply Chain Management. His research interests mostly focus on supply chain management and innovation, network-based service and business model innovation, supply chain finance, supply chain integration, digital supply chain, big-data based supply chain and logistics optimization. In recent five years, he published three influential books, Platform-Based Business Model Innovation and Service Design, Global Supply Chain Quality Management: Product Recalls and Their Impact and International Operations Management:Lessons in Global Business. He was cited as one of the top five highly-cited scholars in Business, Management and Accounting by Elsevier Publishing Group (2015, 2016) and has also received more than 10 academic honors including "Jack Meredith Best Paper Award” (2015) granted by the world leading Journal Operation Management, as long as the Excellence in Research Award conferred by China Europe International Business School (2015,2016). Besides, Professor Zhao has conducted a number of research projects on business model innovation, service innovation and design, supply chain finance, supply chain integration, supply chain quality management, innovation and supply chain learning funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Hong Kong Research Grant Council.
He has also provided training and consulting services for business corporations including, Hair, COFCO, J&J (Xi’an), Port Dalian, Ping An Bank, China Construction Bank, China Merchants Bank, Shenzhen SJET supply chain co.,ltd., Sinopharm Group Co. Ltd, China Mobile, China Telecom, DHL, Japan Airline, Ninjom, Glaxxo SmithKline, Towngas, Kerry Properties, Guang Zhou Steel Group and Beijing Commercial Bank.
Professor Zhao is currently Vice President of Asia Pacific Institute of Decision Science, the founder and honored president of ASCOM. He used to be the chairman of APDSI, ASCOM, the president of International Association for Information and Management Science. He is Associate Editor for the Journal of Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, a senior editor of Production and Operations Management Journal, and the Asia-area chief editor for Journal of Supply Chain Management.
