Biography

Winston’s Background and Experience

Winston graduated from the National University of Singapore with the Bachelor in Architectural Studies and later from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with the Masters of Architecture. Beginning his early career as an urban planner/ architect in the public-sector with the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 1996, Winston has also worked with private-sector firms including Kerry Hill Architects, DP Architects, Nikken Sekkei International and MKPL Architects. During his early 10 year career in Singapore, Winston designed and accomplished his first 20 storey Grade-A office building, The Platinum Tower, in Shanghai as well as the Hort Park Visitor Centre in Singapore, both of which garnered national and international awards for their contribution to excellence in design and environmental response. After acquiring the experience in Singapore, Winston broadened his perspective by venturing overseas to California and Indonesia for a total of 4 years. He became a senior project architect with 2 global firms, Gensler and RTKL, in Los Angeles and also a senior architectural consultant for Jakarta-based real estate developer, the Agung Podomoro Group. Through this valuable exposure to internationally recognised practices, Winston trained his unique skill and strength in managing projects of various budgets, scales and complexities in the fast-paced building and real estate industry. Winston is a Registered Architect with the Board of Architects, Singapore. He is a member of the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the Society of Interior Designers Singapore (SIDS) and has served as an executive committee member with the MIT Club of Singapore.

Passion, Interests and Hobbies

Winston realised his passion to teach by joining Temasek Polytechnic and the National University of Singapore as an adjunct professor. Between 2013 to 2017, he has taught more than 180 diploma and graduate students in High Density Housing Design, Interior Architecture, 3D modelling, Materials, Colours, Light and Space. Winston enjoys being active in sports by swimming, cycling and running regularly, while also scuba diving occasionally. His artistic interests include furniture design, sketching and photography. While travelling overseas, he often draws sketches to capture the moment. He also observes people by using simple line profiles to illustrate their unique characteristic and personality.
