William Shores

Bill strives to provide practical and clear advice to clients, based on more than a quarter century of legal practice and a sound understanding the policy environment in which his clients operate. His main areas of practice are administrative, municipal and planning law, and civil litigation. His practice involves advising and representing governmental entities and regulators, including professional regulators, in complex administrative law issues and associated litigation regularly appearing on behalf of clients in judicial review and appellate matters. He also acts as independent counsel to tribunals. Outside of his work for governmental agencies, Bill represents individuals and corporations, steadfastly advocating his clients’ interests before boards and the courts.

Background

Bill has a passion for public law—the intersection between private interests and the state. He founded the Shores Jardine law firm in 1995 to focus on the practice of public law. He loves practicing in a firm, surrounded by a group of lawyers who share his commitment to excellence in the practice of public law.

His commitment to public law extends to teaching — sharing his knowledge and expertise through teaching and lecturing. He has taught constitutional and administrative law to senior government employees for fifteen years at the University of Alberta School of Business, Centre for Executive and Management Development. He is a frequent presenter at a wide variety of seminars and conferences on administrative law. He instructs the Intensive Trial Advocacy course for lawyers. He regularly leads private training sessions for clients on the conduct of administrative hearings. Bill has written on an array of administrative law topics.
