Teaching Philosophy:

Though my philosophy of teaching in nursing education could fill volumes, I feel the most important concepts to impress upon students are the significance of humanism, patient and family-centered care, as well as the appreciation of cultural diversity within the role of the nurse. Much of nursing education is focused on the knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to deliver professional nursing care and preparation for the licensure exam. Undoubtedly, these requirements of baccalaureate nursing education are essential to deliver safe nursing care within the current healthcare system. However, I feel the teaching of a holistic model of care is also imperative to nursing education.

  • Health Assessment
  • Nursing Essentials
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Pediatric Nursing Senior Seminar
  • Concepts of Pharmacology

Areas of Interest:

  • Family-centered care in pediatric critical care
  • The influence of a pediatric intensive care unit admission on parent and patient stress and anxiety
  • Undergraduate nursing student support
