Dr. Gu is a licensed clinical psychologist with an office in midtown specializing in anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and emotion regulation. He has particularly extensive experience working with young adults and adults facing anxiety and depression. As a certified clinical trauma professional, he supports trauma survivors to lessen the influence of painful past events through emotion regulation skills and trauma narratives. Dr. Gu provides evidence-based psychotherapy as well as forensic and psychological assessments for education and immigration cases.

Dr. Gu uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and David Shapiro’s Self-Deception Model to reduce distressing feelings and thoughts and empower clients to pursue the parts of life they value most. He takes a collaborative approach to help clients understand themselves in a more insightful way, decrease symptoms, and change targeted behaviors.

Dr. Gu received his BA at Boston College, his MA at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and his PhD at City University of New York Graduate Center. In addition to his private practice, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses as a clinical assistant professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and an adjunct professor at Fordham University. His office in midtown is conveniently located by the 42nd Street Grand Central train Station.
