Weiru Chen

Dr. Weiru Chen is associate professor of strategy at CEIBS. He received his Ph.D. in strategic management at Purdue University in the US. He studies innovation strategy and organizational transformation. Prior to joining CEIBS, Professor Chen had taught at INSEAD, France and Singapore. He received CEIBS Teaching Excellence Award in 2013, Dean''s Award for Excellence in Teaching at INSEAD in 2011, Outstanding Teacher of MBA Elective Courses at INSEAD in 2005 and the Best Teaching Award at Purdue University in 2003.  Professor Chen published on the world’s leading academic journals including Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and Research Policy. 

In 2013, Professor Chen published a bestseller book on Platform Strategy (in Chinese), which provides a systematic analysis of world’s top 50 platform business. The book is awarded “Outstanding Book Prize” by The Beijing News, “Fengye Top 10 Books of the Year” and the “Most Popular Digital Publications Prize” by Blue Lion Publishing and Tencent Literature. In 2016, Professor Chen published another book on Platform Transformation (in Chinese), which provides a step-by-step framework for traditional business to incubate new platform business. In 2017, he is selected in the Thinkers50 Radar List as the “world management thinkers most likely to shape the future of how organisations are managed and led.”
