Wei Seong Toh

I am currently an Associate Professor with tenure and Deputy Research Director in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. I hold joint appointments in Faculty of Dentistry and Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, NUS. I am also a Principal Investigator at the NUS Tissue Engineering Program and Supervisor at the Integrative Sciences and Engineering Program, NUS Graduate School.

I am an ExCo member of SOCRATES, Society for Clinical Research and Translation of Extracellular Vesicles Singapore, currently serving as a Secretary. I am also an ExCo member of APSEV, Asian-Pacific Societies for Extracellular Vesicles and a member of ISEV, International Society for Extracellular Vesicles Task Force on Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Use of EV-based Therapeutics.

My research focuses on understanding the mechanisms for degeneration, and developing strategies for regeneration, of tissues of the musculoskeletal system. We first reported that small extracellular vesicles/exosomes underpin the therapeutic efficacy of mesenchymal stromal/stem cells in joint repair. We aim to define the mechanism of action and to lay the necessary framework to advance this promising cell-free therapy to the clinics.
