Professor Wei Pan is Associate Vice-President (Research and GBA) of The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He is also Associate Dean (Masters) of Engineering, Executive Director of HKU Centre for Innovation in Construction and Infrastructure Development (CICID), Director of Net Zero Laboratory and MiC Laboratory, and Professor in Construction Engineering and Management at Department of Civil Engineering of HKU. Professor Pan is also Chairman of HKU Civil Engineering External Relations Committee, of Teaching and Learning Quality Committee, and of Hong Kong CWRB Data Analysis Sub-committee.

Professor Pan is specialised in smart and sustainable construction engineering and management. His research interest covers modular integrated construction (MiC), prefabrication, construction automation and robotics, smart and sustainable infrastructure, net zero carbon, and lifecycle assessment. Professor Pan has attracted over HK$92 million research funding from a number of organisations including the Research Grants Council (RGC), Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Europe Social Fund (ESF), Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office (PICO) and Central Policy Unit (CPU) of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF), Construction Industry Council (CIC), Hong Kong Housing Authority, and Higher Education Academy (HEA). He is currently leading a number of major grants including RGC CRF, RGC RIF, PICO SPPR, etc. addressing the strategic areas of MiC, sustainability and construction engineering.

He has authored over 280 publications and supervised over 70 doctoral and post-graduate researchers. He sits on the editorial board of a number of international academic journals. Professor Pan was awarded Distinguished Young Investigator of China by the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2019. Professor Pan is Top 1% worldwide by citations by Clarivate Analytics, and World’s Top 2% Scientists Released by Stanford University.

Professor Pan is a Chartered Builder, a Chartered Environmentalist, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Member of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. His career is supported by 27 years of working experience in academia and practice internationally including the UK, Singapore, Mainland China and Hong Kong in building design and engineering, construction project management and innovation, and strategic management. Professor Pan was awarded in the 2020 Honours List of the HKSAR for his outstanding contribution to fighting the COVID-19.
