Trevino Rodriguez joins the Villanova staff as an undergraduate assistant for the 2018 season. He pitched in 37 games out of the bullpen over the past three seasons and will now move into a role on the support staff during his senior year. He will be involved with many aspects of the team's operations and will work with the Wildcats coaches and student-athletes in a number of ways during the season. As a member of the Villanova pitching staff, Rodriguez was 2-2 with a 5.66 ERA spanning 41 1/3 innings pitched. All but one of his 37 appearances came in his first two collegiate seasons, including a sophomore campaign in 2016 when he went 1-1 with a 4.39 ERA over 23 appearances. He recorded 20 strikeouts and gave up just one home run to 212 batters faced as an active pitcher.

Prior to his collegiate playing days, Rodriguez was a three-sport athlete at De La Salle (Ill.) High School. He earned three varsity letters in baseball, and two each in football and swimming. He was a Chicago Catholic League White Division first team all-conference selection as a senior on the baseball team, and previously was an honorable mention selection his junior year. He also earned MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors as a linebacker for the football team.

Rodriguez was a Chicago Catholic League All-Academic Scholar-Athlete award winner in both baseball and football. His academic achievements include being named to the Principal's Honor Roll and being inducted into the National Honor Society. He earned awards for Academic Excellence in Spanish and Math, and was a United States History Scholar. Rodriguez also won the Brother I. Austin Award for academic and athletic achievement in both baseball and football.

Born in Chicago, Ill., Rodriguez is the older of two sons of Jason Rodriguez and Claudia Solis. His younger brother, Aaron, plays college football at Incarnate Word. Rodriguez is also related to Kelly Rodriguez, a former Villanova water polo student-athlete from 2001-05. He chose to attend Villanova for its rigorous academic standards, the sense of community on campus and the opportunity to play Division I college baseball. Rodriguez is an English major and is pursuing minors in Spanish and Political Science. He was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team for the 2016-17 academic year.
