Stephen M. Ross School of Business

Thomas J. Schriber is a Professor of Technology and Operations in the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at The University of Michigan. In 2013 he was designated a Pioneer of Simulation in the Computer Simulation Archive housed in the North Carolina State University Library System and supported by several professional organizations and the National Science Foundation. He is a recipient of the INFORMS Simulation Society's Lifetime Professional Achievement Award, of the Society's Distinguished Service Award, of the Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) Board of Directors’ Award for Distinguished Service, and of the Ross School of Business Victor L. Bernard Faculty Award for Leadership in Teaching. He is a Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute and author of four textbooks, among them "Simulation Using GPSS" and "An Introduction to Simulation Using GPSS/H," which were in widespread use for many years. He served ten years on the WSC Board of Directors, and was Board Chair two of those years. At the 40th anniversary of the WSC, his co-authored paper "Inside Discrete-Event Simulation Software: How It Works and Why It Matters" was designated as one of ten Landmark Papers given in the first forty years of the conference. He is a Charter Member of the Decision Sciences Institute and is a member of ASIM (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Simulation, the German-language simulation society), the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and INFORMS, and is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America. His research interests over the years have focused on discrete-event simulation (DES), and include the logical foundations of DES software, design of DES experiments, analysis of DES output, and the use of DES for decision support.
