Tina joined the University of Edinburgh in 1993 as a lecturer in Marketing. Prior to this she was a researcher at the Financial Services Research Centre, at UMIST, Manchester, where she was engaged in a segmentation project funded by the Trustee Savings Bank which provided the research for her PhD. She is currently Professor of Financial Services Marketing and Consumption and also has a University role as Assistant Principal with overall responsibility for the University’s academic standards and quality assurance arrangements.

Tina's research interests are in the area of financial services marketing, specifically associated with consumer use and understanding of financial services and the role of technology. She has led several large research projects, including a three-year funded ESRC project on the impact of the internet on the pensions industry as well as a range of industry-funded projects. Over the last two years she has led the ESRC-funded Seminar Series Financial Services and Consumers: Issues and Challenges in a Context of Change. She has recently conducted research for the Money Advice Service into young adults' financial capability. Her research has been presented widely at conferences and in academic journals. She is co-editor of The Routledge Companion to Financial Services Marketing, author of Financial Services Marketing (Prentice-Hall) and long-standing Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Financial Services Marketing.

In her role as Assistant Principal for Academic Standards and Quality Assurance she is convener of the Senate Quality Assurance Committee. She plays a prominent role in the development of quality assurance at a national level as member of the QAA Scotland External Institutional Review Advisory Group, the sparqs (student partnerships in quality Scotland) Advisory Group, and the SCQF (Scottish Credit and Qualifications) Quality Committee. She is the project co-ordinator of a large European Commission-funded project that is supporting the development of quality assurance processes in the Kosovan higher education sector. She has successfully led the University through two external institutional reviews (Enhancement-led Institutional Review) by the Quality Assurance Agency in 2011 and in 2015.
