Biography
Susan Clark, Ph.D. teaches courses in Management, Organizational Behavior and Theory, Entrepreneurship, and Consulting. She holds a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (“USASBE”) and is active in the Asheville entrepreneurial community as a mentor, public speaker, author and advisory board member. Prior to UNC Asheville, Dr. Clark taught at Ball State University, the London School of Economics, and the University of California, San Diego, where she received her Ph.D. in 2009. She also holds an M.B.A. from the University of Oregon.
Dr. Clark’s research strives to improve our understanding of entrepreneurial support organizations, entrepreneurial ecosystems, corporations, and family businesses with respect to governance, strategy, politics and equity issues. She has her first co-authored book forthcoming with Cambridge University Press in 2022 titled “Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: A Gender Perspective”. A book chapter with Routledge published in 2021 about how the pandemic and governmental policies have impacted women has been presented to the British Academy of Management and has been featured in the press. Recognitions for this research include the UNC Asheville’s Scholarly and Creative Achievement Award, 2017-2018, USASBE’s Best Paper in Entrepreneurship and Ethics Award in 2017, USASBE’s Best Paper in Family Business honorable mention in 2014, and Best Paper in Women’s Entrepreneurship at the International Council for Small Business in 2011. Dr. Clark has held both academic and professional positions in the U.S., Europe and Asia, including with the London School of Economics, IBM Consulting Group, Ernst & Young LLP and Arthur Andersen LLP.
