Trained as a solicitor with Wragge & Co, Birmingham. Previously taught part-time as a lecturer in law at the University of Birmingham. Worked as a research assistant for the Institute of Judicial Administration, University of Birmingham, on projects concerned with prosecutions and reform of the civil justice system.
