Dr. J. Steve Hamm is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the College of Education, Department of Counseling and Special Education. Steve identifies as a Counselor Educator and earned his Doctor of Education in Counseling and Supervision from Governors State University. Prior to joining DePaul in 2019, Steve served 20 years in a not-for-profit residential treatment facility for youth and adolescents, providing clinical services for youth and families within the agency and in the community. Steve established an internship program within the agency and served as internship coordinator/site supervisor for 8 years preceding his transition to DePaul. Steve has presented on his work with youth and adolescents at numerous national level conferences over the past 15 years, and published in the Journal of Individual Psychology. Steve is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Sex Offender Evaluator, Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider and is certified as an Approved Clinical Supervisor. Steve has previously provided Juvenile Sex Offender treatment services for the court through Juvenile probation, and is currently a contracted point of service (POS) provider for the Department of Children and Family services. Steve is a twenty-year veteran of the United States Navy, Lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), Illinois
