Steffen Farny

Assistant Professor of International Social & Sustainable Entrepreneurship at Leuphana University of Lüneburg

Biography

Steffen Farny is Assistant Professor for International Social and Sustainable Entrepreneurship at the Center for Sustainability Management at the Leuphana University Luneburg. In my research, I focus on sustainability and entrepreneurship, the role of emotions in organisational processes, and enterprising in extreme environments. I apply predominantly qualitative research methods to study practices, affect and institutional processes. As part of an EU-FP7 project, I investigated the entrepreneurship journey of community-based enterprises. My interest on post-disaster recovery has motivated me to do ethnographic field research in Haiti after the major 2010-earthquake, in a community in Southern Chile after a volcano eruption, and most recently on several islands in the Caribbean affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria. In addition to that I try to research and engage in the development of challenge-based entrepreneurship education.
