Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss is an architect and theorist living and working in New York City. He holds the PhD from Goldsmiths University of London and the post-professional Masters of Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design. Jovanovic Weiss’ recent book Socialist Architecture: The Vanishing Act with photographer Armin Linke published by JRP Ringier Zürich interprets socialist architecture from former Yugoslavia as beautiful and futuristic ruins. His other book: Almost Architecture explores complex politics of architecture in the context of emerging democracy in former Yugoslavia during the crisis years of the 1990s. His architectural design projects include Villa 62 Ordos, China within the new city curated by artist Ai Weiwei and Z-blocks lightweight furniture tailored for social interaction at museums, galleries and streets. His curatorial projects include exhibits such as: Lina Bo Bardi presented at Columbia GSAPP, Yona Friedman: About Cities installed at The Drawing Center in New York and Anne Tyng: Inhabiting Geometry displayed at The Institute for Contemporary Art in Philadelphia and at the Graham Foundation in Chicago. Jovanovic Weiss taught at Harvard, Columbia, Penn, Pratt, Parsons, Temple and Cornell Universities.
