Simon Ashby is a financial regulator turned academic. He has published numerous papers and reports on risk management, financial services regulation, banking and insurance.

His current research interests include the global financial crisis, the Basel III and Solvency II regulatory reforms, risk culture and risk appetite. He teaches on the Masters in Financial Management programme. He also teaches risk management to students on the Masters in International Management & Strategy, executive and MBA programmes. He’s currently supervising a PhD student in the area of Fintech.

In his previous role with the Financial Services Authority (UK), he wrote risk management policy. He’s also worked as a practicing senior risk manager.

In the UK, Simon was a regular speaker at industry conferences and seminars. He also provided occasional training and consultancy services to financial institutions and their regulators. He’s a Fellow and former Chairman of the Institute of Operational Risk (IOR) and he is non-executive Director and Audit and Risk Committee Chair for Plymouth Community Homes, a social housing provider.
