University of Miami Business School

Silvia serves as Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the University of Miami Herbert Business School of where she focuses on Sustainability/ESG: the intersection of business, society and the environment, and critical analysis and effective communication. With 30+ years of experience developing and executing Sustainability/ESG strategies and plans, and providing legal advice to publicly held companies, Silvia brings in-depth subject matter expertise and practical, real-world experience to students.

Silvia served as the Royal Caribbean Group’s Senior Vice President and Chief ESG Officer, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at Millicom International and held executive and senior legal positions at Chevron Corporation. Working with cross-functional teams, Silvia managed significant litigation and transactions across the globe and developed best practices and policies for ESG, including climate risk, supply chain risk, diversity, equity and inclusion, environmental stewardship and human rights. Her work also focused on board governance, shareholder and stakeholder engagement, ESG reporting, crisis communications and enterprise risk management with the aim of producing integrated, strategic and purpose-driven results.

Silvia is the chair of the Advisory Board of the University of Miami Business School Sustainable Business Master's Program and is a senior fellow and advisory board member of UC Berkeley Law's Institute for Business in Society. She is also a member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association. She has served as an advisory board member at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and the UN Global Compact Human Rights and Labor Group, a senior advisory board member of the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Center for Responsible Business, a vice chair of the United States Council for International Business, and a member of the Harvard Kennedy School Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative.

Silvia earned her J.D. from the University of Miami, where she served as a member of the Law Review, and her B.A. from Boston College, cum laude. She also studied at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and at L'Institut Catholique de Paris.
