Shreekant Gupta is Professor, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, Adjunct Professor, LKY School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Faculty Associate, Centre on Asia and Globalisation at LKYSPP, NUS. He has taught at the University of Delhi, National University of Singapore, Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Maryland. He was Fulbright Post-doctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2001-02) and Shastri Fellow at Queens University, Canada (2001). Currently he is Vice-President, Indian Society for Ecological Economics (INSEE).

Prior to joining University of Delhi he was Fellow, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi where he set up and headed the Environmental Policy Cell. He has also worked as an environmental economist at the World Bank at Washington DC and as a career economist in the Indian government (Indian Economic Service cadre). In addition, he has consulted with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, OECD, UNEP and Resources for the Future and is Executive Education Associate at LKY School of Public Policy, Singapore. Dr. Gupta’s policy experience includes Directorship of National Institute of Urban Affairs, New Delhi. He has served on several national and international committees of the Government of India, UNEP and IPCC (which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 and to which his contribution was recognized).

He has published papers in several journals in addition to book chapters and op eds and is Associate Editor of the Indian Economic Review. His most recent book is Environmental Policies in Asia: Perspectives from Seven Asian Countries (co‐edited with Huang Jing).
