Biography

Scott Bearse has 31 years of strategy and operations consulting experience as a director and partner or principal at Deloitte Consulting, Arthur Andersen, and Senn-Delaney Management Consultants. Most recently he served L Brands as the strategic advisor to the CEO in the capacity of chief stores officer. During his consulting career he held leadership positions in the retail and consumer business industries, MBA recruiting, and strategic client relationships. He served on the Global CB Editorial Board, the Eminence Board at Deloitte, and was a World Retail Awards Judge. He was a frequent speaker at industry events such as the National Retail Federation and the World Retail Congress. He is also the author of many articles on trends and insights into the industry. More important, he served more than 100 different clients, leading more than 300 consulting engagements and providing an extensive and diverse background from which to share experiences with our students.

Scott graduated from Tufts University with a degree in engineering in 1978 and worked for Westinghouse Electric Company for six years; then he returned to academe to obtain an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell in 1986. He joined Senn-Delaney Management Consultants, which was acquired by Arthur Andersen in 1992 and subsequently became a world wide partner. In 2003 he joined Deloitte Consulting as a direct admit partner/principal where he was a practice leader for 12 years. He joined L Brands as an executive after retiring from Deloitte Consulting. Scott is currently the founder and owner of his own consulting firm, Bellwhistle Advisors LLC.

Scott has been a frequent visitor to Johnson and Cornell since he graduated from JGSM in 1986. He has returned as a guest lecturer for the last six years, and he has been back for more than a decade interviewing and recruiting students. He has been an active mentor and coach to our students, interns, and alumni as they have pursued their careers.

Scott enjoys sailboat racing and cruising in his spare time. He is a well-known, successful ocean racer and small boat sailor. He is the former Commodore of the Barnstable Yacht Club, a member of the Hyannis Yacht Club, the Storm Trysail Club, and US Sailing. He has also served as a board member of the Cape Cod Maritime Museum. When not in Ithaca, Scott lives in Barnstable Massachusetts on Cape Cod with his family. He is a frequent author and speaker.
