He also co-produced and mixed several albums for UW professor of jazz studies and noted pianist Marc Seales.
Charles has been nominated for an Emmy four times, winning twice — in 2000 for his work on the National Geographic special Avalanche: The White Death and in 2016 for sound design on the PBS special The Last Orangutan Eden. In 2004, he was honored with a Teaching Excellence Award for his work with the Certificate in Audio Production. His teaching philosophy is: All equipment and software evolve and become outdated. Learning how to listen and trust your own ears are the true lasting values of audio education.
