Harvard Medical School

Dr. Sayeed K. Malek is the clinical director of transplant surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School (HMS). He is also the QAPI Physician Lead (Quality Assessment & Performance Improvement), responsible for quality improvement initiatives for all transplant programs at his hospital. He has also been actively involved in his hospital’s VCA program (vascularized composite allotransplantation), one of the world’s leading programs of its kind. He has served on a number of Advisory Committees, including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS); and he has served on the Editorial Board and as an Ad Hoc Reviewer for a number of publications, including Transplant International, Transplantation, the American Journal of Transplantation and Nephrology Times. Dr. Malek’s interests and major focus include pancreas transplantation, islet auto transplantation, and living donor kidney transplantation. His research interests also include developing techniques for stem cell transplant for diabetes. He is also an enthusiastic teacher and mentor to HMS students and surgery residents, and is currently program director for HMS’ Surgical Leadership Program.
