Sau-Wai Wong

Sau-Wai Wong is the Principal Consultant and CEO of rybkarock based in Houston, Texas, USA. With a long career in the exploration and production of oil & gas, Dr. Wong began with D’Appolonia Engineers in Italy as a Geotechnical Engineer. He then joined Shell International Exploration & Production in the Netherlands, following which he took up multiple international assignments for Shell’s operation in Oman, The Netherlands, Malaysia and USA. In the USA, he was the Technology Manager for Unconventional Resources and served as the Principal Technical Expert in Geomechanics for Shell’s worldwide operation. After leaving Shell, he joined Premier Oilfield Group as the VP for Technical Software and later took up the role of Technical Director for Cuadrilla Resources in the UK.

Dr. Wong is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA). He was a SPE Distinguished Lecturer (2009-2010) and delivered the lecture entitled “Geomechanics – A Missing Link in Reservoir Management?”.

Dr Wong was an Honorary Professor at the School of Earth Sciences, The University of Melbourne, Australia (2012-2017). He was one of the founding professors for the petroleum engineering program at the National University of Singapore. Presently, he is a Visiting Professor at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He holds a BSc. in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Engineering from The University of Manchester, UK.
