Sara Calvo

Focus areas: emerging markets, macroeconomic and financial policies, Latin America

Sara Guerschanik Calvo is a Lecturer in the Discipline of International and Public Affairs. She teaches courses on emerging market investment climate and financial issues. She also co-chairs Columbia’s University Seminar on Latin America.

Prior to joining SIPA in 2007 she worked for 20 years at the World Bank (WB), holding various senior economist positions and making contributions in two related capacities, namely country economist and teacher. She contributed many studies and chapters to WB publications in the areas of macrofinance, public expenditures and growth. She also established several training and knowledge dissemination programs for WB staff, policymakers and legislators globally. She won several internal awards for these programs. More recently she has also been a consultant for UNDP making contributions in the area of financial crises and the impact on the social sectors.

Guerschanik Calvo holds a PhD in Economics from Columbia University; an MA in Science Education from New York University; and a Licenciatura in Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires.
