Booth School of Business
Sandra W. Shelton’s research interests focus on judgment and decision-making issues with financial information. She has published in The Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, ABACUS, Managerial Auditing, CPA Journal, Advances in International Accounting, Strategic Finance, Research in Accounting Regulation and other academic and practitioner journals. She has presented research papers in both national and international conferences.
Shelton received her Ph.D. in Accounting from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, MBA (Finance) from Indiana University, and BS (Economics) from Rhodes College. At Booth, Shelton teaches Implicit Bias in Business Applications. She brings to Booth a depth of experience, as she has served as a member of the faculty at DePaul University since 1994. Shelton has experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in auditing, fraud examination, and internal auditing and corporate governance classes.
In addition to being the KPMG Distinguished Professor of Accountancy at DePaul, Shelton also serves as the Director of the Internal Auditing Program in the School of Accountancy & MIS, Driehaus College of Business. She was recognized as Educator of the Year by the Chicago Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (2008 & 2014). Additionally, she was recognized as a 2014 Inductee in the PhD Project Hall of Fame as one of a select few who have inspired many.
Outside of academia, Shelton serves on the boards of Evanston Community Foundation (Audit Committee), Second Baptist Church (Trustee), North Shore Chapter of the Links, Inc. (President), and Rhodes College Board of Trustees. In the past, she has served on the boards of McGaw YMCA, Pioneering Healthier Communities Evanston Task Force, as well as the Blue Ribbon Committee of the City of Evanston.
