UW Professional & Continuing Education

Ruth Huwe is a full-time lecturer in the UW Department of Management & Organization Studies. She’s wrote the book Metrics 2.0 and teaches courses in metrics, leadership, motivation, negotiations and organizational behavior. Huwe has served on the faculty of the UW global executive MBA and global MBA programs, where she taught international business communications for executives from Japan, Korea and Romania.

Since 1996, Huwe has consulted with the Ed Wells Partnership, a joint-organization sponsored by the SPEEA union and Boeing. She led 196 teams through the process of becoming Partners in Leadership, trained SPEEA union negotiators through four rounds of talks and was their strategist for two rounds of talks. She has also made several presentations to the UW Medical School, including to the Certificate in Medical Management program, at the annual Leadership Development Workshop, at Grand Rounds and has facilitated the Department of Anesthesiology's annual offsite meetings. Huwe has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in speech communication from San Diego State University and a Ph.D. in organizational communication from the University of Washington.

  • Current trainer for "Presentation Skills that Get Results" at the Boeing Company.
  • Leader of the "Partners in Leadership" program that ran for six years at the Boeing Company.
  • Invited speaker and negotiation consultant to the SPEEA union representing technical and engineering employees.
  • Developed management tools to improve worker utilization, satisfaction and productivity that were a primary component of an instructional CD rom created by the Boeing Company.
  • Numerous speaking engagements to the University of Washington Medical School providing team building and negotiation training.
  • Authored a performance appraisal system and provided training to 250 managers and executives to use it, Puget Power and Light Company.
  • Conducted extensive studies of white-collar labor issues for the Ed Wells Initiative, an organization jointly sponsored by the SPEEA union and the Boeing company.
