Biography
National University of Singapore
Ruby Yun Ju Huang obtained her MD degree from National Taiwan University and completed the training of Obstetrics & Gynecology and subspecialty fellowship training of gynecologic/surgical oncology in National Taiwan University Hospital. She pursuit an advanced study and obtained her PhD from National Taiwan University with the thesis entitled “The Role of Lysophosphatidic Acid on Ovarian Cancer SKOV3 Cell Dispersal and Junction Disruption”. She established a link of LPA responsiveness in colony dispersal with the expression of epithelial and mesenchymal phenotypes in ovarian carcinoma cells and identified the interaction between junction protein p120-catenin with one of the Src family kinases, Fyn, as the crucial mediators in the process. She further expanded her study in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition of human ovarian surface epithelium and proposed a possible correlation between aberrant responsiveness to growth factors and early ovarian carcinogenesis under the guidance of Prof. Nelly Auersperg at Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology of University of British Columbia. Her postdoctoral studies with Prof. Jean Paul Thiery at Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore led to her full engagement in the oncogenomic and translational research in ovarian carcinoma focusing on the establishment of integrative genomic platforms and pre-clinical models. Her current research focus is on the plasticity of ovarian surface epithelium, ovarian cancer stem cells, and oncogenomics of epithelial ovarian cancer. She was awarded with FIGO/BSP Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and Taiwan Merit Scholarship in 2006. She is currently working as a clinician scientist in Cancer Science Institute of Singapore and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of National University of Singapore.
